Ishaq Dar Departs for Cairo to Attend Quadrilateral Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar departed for Cairo on Saturday to participate in a meeting of the foreign ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.

The Foreign Office (FO) announced Dar’s departure through a post on social media platform X, stating that he would take part in the high-level diplomatic gathering and hold a series of bilateral engagements on its sidelines.

According to the FO, Dar is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with the participating foreign ministers and call on Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi during his visit.

In a statement issued on Friday, the FO said the meeting, scheduled to take place on June 21 and the fourth of its kind, will bring together the foreign ministers of Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Pakistan to discuss regional developments and exchange views on issues related to peace, security and stability.

The FO said the ministers would build on the outcomes of previous R-4 meetings and discuss ways to further strengthen cooperation in areas of shared interest.

It added that during the visit, Dar would also hold bilateral consultations with his Egyptian counterpart and meet President El-Sisi.

“The discussions will focus on further deepening Pakistan-Egypt bilateral cooperation across diverse fields and exchanging views on regional and international developments of mutual interest,” the FO said.

The Foreign Office reaffirmed that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye.

It noted that the R-4 framework reflects the participating countries’ shared commitment to consultation, cooperation and coordinated efforts in support of regional peace and prosperity.

In March, Dar hosted the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Turkiye and Egypt in Islamabad for a quadrilateral meeting focused on the Middle East crisis.
