Five Killed in Israeli Airstrikes on South Lebanon Despite Ceasefire

BEIRUT — At least five people were killed in Israeli airstrikes on the southern Lebanese town of Arabsalim on Saturday, according to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency (NNA), despite a ceasefire agreement reportedly reached between Israel and Hezbollah on Friday.

The NNA reported that Israeli warplanes and drones launched a series of strikes across the Nabatieh region overnight and into Saturday morning. The attacks reportedly destroyed several residential buildings and homes in the area.

In addition to the air raids, Israeli artillery shelled Nabatieh and its surrounding areas before dawn, causing further damage and raising concerns about the stability of the newly announced ceasefire.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military regarding the reported strikes. The latest escalation has cast doubt on efforts to maintain calm along the Israel-Lebanon border following months of cross-border hostilities.

The situation remains tense as residents assess the damage and authorities continue to monitor developments in southern Lebanon.
