Babar Azam becomes fastest batter to score 12,000 T20 runs

Karachi: In a landmark moment during the Pakistan Super League Season 11 clash, Babar Azam etched his name into cricket history by becoming the fastest batter to reach 12,000 runs in men’s T20 cricket.

The Peshawar Zalmi captain achieved this milestone against Karachi Kings at the National Bank Stadium, bringing up the record with a six off Khushdil Shah in the fourth over.

Babar entered the match with 11,987 runs in 337 innings and surpassed the 12,000-run mark in his 338th innings.

With this feat, the 31-year-old became the 12th player in men’s T20 history to reach the milestone, joining elite names such as Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shoaib Malik.

Notably, Babar now holds the record for reaching 12,000 T20 runs in the fewest innings, surpassing Gayle, who had previously achieved the feat in 345 innings.

He is followed by Kohli and David Warner, who reached the milestone in 360 and 368 innings, respectively.

Meanwhile, Gayle continues to lead the all-time T20 run charts with 14,562 runs in 455 innings, including 22 centuries and 88 fifties, closely followed by Pollard with 14,482 runs.

Veteran Pakistani all-rounder Shoaib Malik remains seventh on the list with 13,571 runs in 515 innings, highlighting the dominance of experienced players in the shortest format of the game.
