Suicide attack at Domel police station in Bannu kills 5, injures 13

BANNU: A powerful suicide bombing at Domel police station in Bannu has left five civilians dead and 13 others injured, officials confirmed.

The blast, reportedly heard miles away, completely destroyed the station’s sentry post and reduced a large portion of the building to rubble.

The explosion also caused severe damage to nearby residential areas, with multiple houses collapsing and several people trapped under debris. Rescue 1122 teams rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, where some are reported to be in critical condition.

Among the injured is one police officer.District Emergency Officer Bakhtullah Wazir confirmed the casualties and said search and rescue operations are ongoing. He added that relief teams will continue their work until the area is fully cleared.

Continuous rainfall in the region has complicated the rescue efforts.Local mosques broadcast appeals for blood donations and public assistance, and residents actively joined in rescue operations.

Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched clearance operations to ensure the site is secure while further details on casualties and damage are being collected.

Bannu district has witnessed repeated security incidents in recent months, targeting both civilians and local security personnel amid a rise in militant violence.

Attacks have included assaults on police stations and jirga members, prompting targeted operations by security forces to dismantle militant networks.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has seen a marked increase in terror attacks over the past year. According to the 2025 Annual Security Report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), fatalities in KP rose sharply from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025, highlighting the growing security challenges in the region.
