ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Under-16 football team will take part in the UEFA Development Tournament for the first time in the country’s history, marking a significant milestone for youth football in Pakistan. The tournament is scheduled to be held in Kazakhstan from April 24 to 30.
Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) President Mohsin Gilani confirmed the development while speaking to the media, describing the team’s participation as a historic achievement for the sport in the country.
He said the tournament will feature youth teams from host Kazakhstan, Russia, and Azerbaijan, providing Pakistan’s young footballers with exposure to high-level international competition.
According to Gilani, Pakistan’s inclusion in a UEFA-organised tournament reflects improving relations between the PFF and international football bodies. He added that the development highlights ongoing efforts to create international opportunities for emerging talent.
Emphasising the importance of global exposure, the PFF president said participation in such tournaments is vital for the long-term growth of football in Pakistan. He noted that competing against strong international sides would help young players gain valuable experience, build confidence, and better understand global football standards.
