Rachel Reid Revives Shane and Ilya in Unrivaled

NEW YORK: Canadian author Rachel Reid is set to reunite fan-favourite characters Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov in her upcoming novel Unrivaled, continuing their journey after the events of The Long Game.

The new instalment follows the couple in their 30s as they navigate life, love and the realities of growing older, both personally and professionally. While the narrative explores both characters’ perspectives, Reid has described Shane as the central figure of the trilogy.

In an interview with Out magazine, the author said that even when earlier books appeared to focus more heavily on Ilya, it was Shane whose character arc defined the broader story. She termed Shane the “hero” of the series.

Reid noted that writing the characters in their 30s presented a fresh creative challenge, particularly in portraying the physical limitations faced by professional athletes as they age. The author said it was engaging to examine how Shane copes with changes in his body and career, while also reflecting on the couple’s evolving outlook on their shared future.

Unrivaled marks the seventh entry in Reid’s popular Game Changers series. In the latest chapter, Shane and Ilya are married, openly committed to their relationship and playing on the same hockey team.

The novel continues to explore themes of love, identity and personal growth, keeping Shane at the heart of a story that has resonated strongly with readers.
