Pishin: Five terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted by security forces in Balochistan, the military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Monday.
According to the statement, troops engaged the terrorists’ hideout with multiple weapons, leading to an intense exchange of fire. During the operation, one suicide bomber detonated himself, while four other militants were killed by security forces.
Weapons, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from the militants, who were reportedly involved in various terrorist activities in the area. Sanitisation operations were underway to clear the area of any remaining threats.
The ISPR said that the ongoing counterterrorism campaign, carried out under the national security vision, would continue with full momentum to eliminate foreign-sponsored terrorism from Pakistan.
The provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have witnessed increased militant activity since 2021. Earlier this month, India-backed militants belonging to Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) carried out coordinated attacks in several districts of Balochistan, resulting in casualties among civilians and security personnel, according to the military.
Security forces subsequently launched clearance operations, eliminating a large number of militants in multiple engagements.
