Shehzad Criticises India After Loss to South Africa

Ahmed Shehzad has said that lack of unity within the India national cricket team was a major reason behind their heavy defeat against South Africa national cricket team in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

South Africa ended India’s 12-match winning streak in the tournament with a comprehensive 76-run victory in the Super Eights clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

Speaking during a television programme, Shehzad said the Indian side did not appear to be playing as a cohesive unit, adding that the level of unity seen during the era of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli was missing.

He also pointed to weaknesses in India’s bowling combination, questioning team strategy and selection decisions. Shehzad said the side lacked depth in bowling options during crucial middle overs despite efforts by Jasprit Bumrah towards the end.

The former Pakistan opener further criticised the team’s leadership and body language, saying pressure situations had exposed shortcomings in the current combination.

South Africa captain Aiden Markram led his team to victory, strengthening their position in the Super Eight stage of the tournament.
