Social Media Reacts to Saba Faisal’s Views on Newly Married Women

Senior Pakistani actress Saba Faisal has come under criticism on social media following her recent remarks about the role and responsibilities of newly married brides in their in-laws’ homes.

The actress, who has enjoyed a long and successful career in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, frequently appears on television programmes where she discusses marriage, family life, and social issues. Her latest comments were made during a morning show aired on a private TV channel.

During the programme, Saba Faisal stated that following a wedding, the in-laws’ household is often busy with guests and added responsibilities, most of which are handled by the mother-in-law. She suggested that newly married brides do not immediately carry major responsibilities during this period.

The actress further remarked that if a bride feels the need to rest, she should seek permission from her mother-in-law or married sister-in-law. According to her, if rest is not offered proactively, the bride should politely request it, as making direct demands may not be well received in traditional households.

She also emphasised the importance of tone and manner, claiming that even a strict mother-in-law would likely allow rest if approached respectfully.

However, the remarks sparked a strong reaction online, with many social media users criticising her views as outdated and unfair. One user questioned whether such expectations were appropriate in modern households, while another commented that the actress should refrain from appearing on morning shows, alleging that her statements often generate controversy.

The discussion has once again highlighted the ongoing debate around traditional family dynamics, gender roles, and expectations placed on newly married women in Pakistani society.
