Islamabad (Sports Desk) Pakistan will go ahead with its highly anticipated and politically sensitive February 15 clash against India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup after the federal government formally granted approval, putting an end to days of speculation, debate, and uncertainty.

According to an official statement issued on Monday via the government’s X (formerly Twitter) account, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was briefed in detail by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi regarding the outcomes of extensive high-level consultations involving the PCB, the International Cricket Council (ICC), and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

The statement said that, after considering the results of multilateral discussions and the appeals of friendly nations, the government directed the Pakistan national cricket team to honor its scheduled fixture against India on February 15, 2026.

“In view of the outcomes achieved in multilateral discussions, as well as the request of friendly countries, the Government of Pakistan hereby directs the Pakistan National Cricket Team to take the field on February 15, 2026, for its scheduled fixture in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup,” the statement read.

The government emphasized that the decision was taken to “protect the spirit of cricket and to support the continuity of this global sport in all participating nations,” highlighting Pakistan’s commitment to international sporting values despite political complexities.

The announcement comes after intense public debate and behind-the-scenes diplomacy, with concerns raised over security, political tensions, and diplomatic considerations surrounding the high-profile encounter between the two arch-rivals.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended his best wishes to the national squad, expressing hope for a strong performance in what is expected to be one of the most-watched matches of the tournament.

“The prime minister and the people of Pakistan wish the team success and commend their role in upholding the spirit of sportsmanship on the global stage,” the statement added.

With the government’s final approval, preparations on both sides are expected to accelerate ahead of the blockbuster clash.
