LOS ANGELES: The Minions are set to return to cinemas as the first trailer of the third film in the popular animated franchise was unveiled during Super Bowl LX.
Released on February 8, the trailer introduces Minions & Monsters, which is scheduled to hit theatres on July 1, 2026. The preview shows the mischievous yellow characters creating fresh chaos — this time in Hollywood.
According to the film’s synopsis, Minions & Monsters tells the story of how the Minions take over Hollywood, rise to fame as movie stars, lose everything, and ultimately unleash monsters upon the world.
The synopsis adds that the Minions then band together in an attempt to save the planet from the destruction they themselves have caused.
The two-minute trailer depicts the Minions seizing control of Hollywood before inadvertently unleashing monsters, leading to widespread mayhem. As the situation spirals out of control, the Minions are seen teaming up to confront the chaos.
Universal Pictures released the trailer with the caption: “Hollywood has a monster problem. Minions & Monsters is only in theatres on July 1.”
The film is directed by French animator Pierre Coffin, who is the primary voice behind all the Minion characters. Coffin is also known for co-directing the first four films of the Despicable Me franchise.
