Tehran<\/strong>: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has dismissed the United States’ “Iron Gate” plan as nothing more than a play on words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebbi said the US plan to blockade Iran through land routes is also insignificant. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said Washington is trying to impose an economic siege on Iran under various names and plans, but it will fail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have good relations with our neighbours and several routes for these ties. The US is too weak to close them,” Mohebbi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a months-long naval blockade of Iran, US Central Command ordered the formation of a special task force. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its aim is to curb the movement of advanced weapons systems and other sanctioned Iranian goods across land borders and the Caspian Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The task force, called Iron Gate, will have around 20 military and civilian personnel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It will be based in Tampa, Florida, and will coordinate with other US government agencies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
