Gilgit Scouts, alongside local fighters, courageously fought against Indian forces and hoisted the Pakistani flag in the region.

Following nearly a year of continued struggle, Baltistan was also liberated from Indian control on August 14, 1948.

The brave fighters of Gilgit-Baltistan defeated their adversaries during the liberation struggle and successfully prevented their homeland from falling under Indian control. The battles fought during the freedom movement are remembered as remarkable chapters of courage and sacrifice in military history.

Even after independence, the people of Gilgit-Baltistan continued to demonstrate extraordinary courage and patriotism, making significant contributions during subsequent Pakistan-India wars.

Meanwhile, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has released a special patriotic song titled “Shaan-e-Pakistan, Gilgit-Baltistan” to mark the region’s Independence Day.

The song features lyrics by renowned Gilgit-Baltistan poet Zeeshan Mehdi and is performed in the captivating voice of singer JJ Ali Sheena.

The patriotic anthem reflects the people’s deep affection for Pakistan, their national identity and strong emotional connection with the country. It also highlights Gilgit-Baltistan’s historic struggle for freedom and the pride associated with its longstanding relationship with Pakistan.

GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan is celebrating its Independence Day on November 1 with national pride and patriotic enthusiasm, commemorating the historic victory of local freedom fighters against Dogra rule in 1947.
