{"id":7158,"date":"2026-10-06T20:00:01","date_gmt":"2026-10-06T20:00:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/?p=7158"},"modified":"2026-10-06T20:00:03","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T20:00:03","slug":"digital-payments-surge-in-pakistan-as-transactions-rise-65-in-fy2025-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/?p=7158","title":{"rendered":"Digital Payments Surge in Pakistan as Transactions Rise 65% in FY2025-26"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>ISLAMABAD: Digital payments continued to gain momentum in Pakistan during fiscal year 2025-26, with the volume of digital transactions increasing by 65% year-on-year, according to the State Bank of Pakistan\u2019s annual Payment Systems Review report.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the State Bank, the overall volume of retail payments increased by 58% during FY2025-26, while the value of retail payments reached Rs673 trillion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A total of 14.3 billion retail transactions were processed through formal banking channels during the fiscal year, of which 13.2 billion were conducted through digital channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The share of digital channels in total retail payments increased to 92%, compared with 88% in FY2025, highlighting the rapid shift towards digital banking and cashless transactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mobile phone-based payments recorded particularly strong growth, with the number of transactions exceeding 11.1 billion. Mobile-based digital transactions increased by 79% year-on-year during the period under review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Internet banking also continued to expand, with 300 million transactions recorded during FY2025-26, representing an annual increase of 15%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The number of point-of-sale terminals across the country increased to 337,791, installed at 295,367 merchant locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the report, around 1.5 million card payments are now being processed through POS terminals every day, compared with approximately one million daily card payments during the previous fiscal year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Account-based payments accounted for 96% of e-commerce payments made through banking channels, reflecting the growing reliance on direct digital account payments for online purchases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The number of branchless banking mobile app users reached 99.1 million, while the number of customers using banks\u2019 mobile applications stood at 30.4 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The State Bank said smartphone usage for routine banking activities is growing rapidly, contributing significantly to the expansion of digital payments and electronic banking services across Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ISLAMABAD: Digital payments continued to gain momentum in Pakistan during fiscal year 2025-26, with the volume of digital transactions increasing by 65% year-on-year, according to the State Bank of Pakistan\u2019s&hellip; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":7159,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[9],"tags":[2661,2662,67],"class_list":["post-7158","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-economy","tag-digital-economy","tag-raast-id","tag-state-bank-of-pakistan"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.4 -
