{"id":6554,"date":"2026-09-15T08:19:04","date_gmt":"2026-09-15T08:19:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/?p=6554"},"modified":"2026-09-15T08:19:05","modified_gmt":"2026-09-15T08:19:05","slug":"us-military-faces-munitions-shortfall-after-costly-iran-war-pentagon-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/?p=6554","title":{"rendered":"US Military Faces Munitions Shortfall After Costly Iran War: Pentagon Report"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Washington: The US military is facing a significant shortfall in ammunition following its costly war with Iran, according to a report by the Defense Department\u2019s inspector general.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a first-of-its-kind mandatory report submitted to Congress, the inspector general said Operation Epic Fury (OEF), conducted between February 28 and June 30, incurred an estimated cost of $33.4 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of the total expenditure, around $22.3 billion was spent on munitions used during the operation, highlighting the scale of the US military\u2019s ammunition consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report warned that the heavy expenditure had resulted in \u201cstrategic inventory shortfalls\u201d and exposed bottlenecks in the US industrial base that could hamper efforts to replenish munitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The assessment also detailed losses and damage to US military aircraft during the operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> According to the report, four F-15 fighter jets were destroyed, while one F-35 and seven KC-135 tanker aircraft were damaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Up to 30 MQ-9 Reaper drones were also reported destroyed during the conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The findings underscore the challenges facing the US military in rapidly replenishing critical weapons stocks following the extensive use of precision-guided munitions and other military equipment during the Iran war.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Washington: The US military is facing a significant shortfall in ammunition following its costly war with Iran, according to a report by the Defense Department\u2019s inspector general.
