US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday that the United States’ primary focus is \u201ca denuclearised Iran\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey cannot have nuclear weapons; I mean, imagine what they would do to the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at the sidelines of the ASEAN conference in Manila, Rubio added that the US had kept its end of the deal with Iran, but Tehran kept reneging on agreements while suffering major losses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“These people make deals and then they break it almost immediately or they decide, ‘oh, let’s change the deal’. That’s not how deals work,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“So now they’re paying the price for it. And maybe they’ll change their mind here over the next few days as they continue to suffer great losses.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rubio also said that \u201cIran is begging for a deal…\u201cI just don\u2019t think they\u2019re serious about making a deal.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt looks like Iran is not ready to make a deal, they will pay the price…Every time they make a deal, they either break it or change it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe price on Iran will get higher every night until they come to their senses,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe problem with them is you can\u2019t make a deal with people unless they\u2019re going to keep it,\u201d the US diplomat said, claiming that Tehran \u201cbreaks\u201d or attempts to \u201cchange the deal\u201d after entering into them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo now they\u2019re paying the price for it, and maybe they\u2019ll change.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking on the situation in Yemen, he said that he hoped the Houthis would de-escalate. \u201cThey got snookered by Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When asked about Iranian officials referring to an \u201ceye for an eye\u201d policy, Rubio said Trump\u2019s approach was \u201ca head for an eye\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey will pay a very heavy price for the things they are doing. They are already paying a heavy price,\u201d Rubio claimed, adding that the country\u2019s industrial infrastructure was being \u201cdecimated,\u201d resulting in \u201cbillions\u201d of dollars of damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The US secretary of state says Iran \u201cis a country run by radical clerics\u201d, calling them \u201coblivious\u201d to economic issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey are destroying their country,\u201d he said, adding: \u201cIran can be the richest country in the Middle East if they wanted to be.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
