{"id":5778,"date":"2026-07-15T10:45:26","date_gmt":"2026-07-15T10:45:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/?p=5778"},"modified":"2026-07-15T10:45:26","modified_gmt":"2026-07-15T10:45:26","slug":"iran-accuses-us-of-violating-bilateral-memorandum-in-letter-to-un","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/?p=5778","title":{"rendered":"Iran accuses US of violating bilateral memorandum in letter to UN"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Iran has accused the United States of violating the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, which was intended to end the conflict between the two countries, and alleged that Washington has committed war crimes, according to a letter sent to the United Nations.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Iran&#8217;s state-run IRNA news agency, Iran&#8217;s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeid Iravani, wrote to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the president of the UN Security Council, alleging that the US had failed to uphold its commitments under the agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Almost immediately after the signing of the Memorandum, and continuing to the present day, the United States has not only failed to honor its commitments but has actively and systematically undermined the very foundations of the Memorandum,&#8221; Iravani said in the letter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Iranian envoy accused Washington of multiple violations, including renewed military strikes on Iranian territory, revoking licences for Iranian oil sales, establishing a parallel maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz, and continuing support for Israeli military operations in Lebanon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said these &#8220;deliberate, calculated, and sustained actions&#8221; posed a grave threat to international peace and security and reflected what he described as the United States&#8217; complete disregard for its obligations under international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iravani further stated that Iran had formally raised each alleged violation with mediators, but claimed the United States had continued to escalate what he described as its unlawful actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also said the war against Iran, which he said began on February 28, constituted &#8220;unprovoked acts of aggression&#8221; by the United States and Israel in violation of the UN Charter. According to Iravani, the conflict had involved numerous war crimes and crimes against humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Calling for international action, the Iranian envoy urged the UN Security Council to take &#8220;immediate, effective and decisive measures&#8221; to compel Washington to halt its &#8220;ongoing unlawful acts&#8221; against Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The latest accusations come amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz.
