{"id":5053,"date":"2026-06-19T07:28:54","date_gmt":"2026-06-19T07:28:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/?p=5053"},"modified":"2026-06-19T07:28:55","modified_gmt":"2026-06-19T07:28:55","slug":"kp-set-to-present-rs2-15-trillion-tax-free-budget-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/?p=5053","title":{"rendered":"KP Set to Present Rs2.15 Trillion Tax-Free Budget Today"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is set to present its tax-free budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 today (Friday), with a total outlay exceeding Rs2.15 trillion.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to sources, the provincial budget earmarks more than Rs235 billion for the Annual Development Programme (ADP), while own-source revenue is projected at Rs182 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An official familiar with the budget preparations said the government has based its fiscal estimates on the Federal Board of Revenue\u2019s tax collection target of Rs15.2 trillion. The budget also proposes a seven per cent increase in salaries for government employees, along with a rise in conveyance allowance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The official said no new taxes would be imposed in the upcoming fiscal year. Instead, the government plans to reduce the infrastructure development cess from the current two per cent to 0.75 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, taxes on five-marla houses are expected to be lowered, a move that could benefit more than 200,000 households across the province. The budget is also likely to include loan schemes for students and Pakistanis seeking employment opportunities abroad, reflecting the government\u2019s focus on economic growth and public welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, the official noted that approval of the federal grant remains contingent upon the assent of incarcerated Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier, the finance department\u2019s budget strategy paper, released in May, had proposed a budget outlay of Rs2.3 trillion for the next fiscal year. The document estimated federal tax assignments at Rs1.6 trillion, provincial own-source revenue at Rs150 billion, merged districts\u2019 funds at Rs321 billion, and foreign project assistance at Rs160 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The strategy paper also projected the current budget for settled districts at Rs1.5 trillion, alongside an ADP allocation of Rs426 billion. For the merged districts, current expenditures were estimated at Rs181 billion, while development spending was projected at Rs153 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The document highlighted challenges in achieving development spending targets during the outgoing fiscal year. Against a budgeted development allocation of Rs547 billion, actual spending reached only Rs169 billion, representing an achievement rate of 30 per cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a result, the total expected development outlay was revised downward to Rs444 billion. Despite the reduction, this figure still marks a 31 per cent increase compared to the previous year\u2019s actual development spending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The strategy paper further stated that total expenditures as of March had reached Rs988 billion, accounting for 50 per cent of the annual budget. Consequently, the government adjusted its annual growth projection to 19 per cent while maintaining fiscal discipline and safeguarding essential expenditures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, a notification issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Secretariat confirmed that, under Rule 33(1) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government Rules of Business, 1985, the provincial budget for the financial year 2026-27 will be presented before the assembly today at 2pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is set to present its tax-free budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 today (Friday), with a total outlay exceeding Rs2.15 trillion.
