{"id":4941,"date":"2026-06-17T08:02:59","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T08:02:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/?p=4941"},"modified":"2026-06-17T08:03:03","modified_gmt":"2026-06-17T08:03:03","slug":"amnesty-accuses-israel-of-war-crime-over-alleged-unlawful-displacement-in-lebanon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/?p=4941","title":{"rendered":"Amnesty accuses Israel of \u2018war crime\u2019 over alleged unlawful displacement in Lebanon"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>LONDON: The UK-based human rights organisation Amnesty International has accused the Israeli army of committing \u201cwar crimes\u201d under international law, alleging that mass forced displacement orders issued in Lebanon amount to \u201cunlawful transfer\u201d of civilians.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn parts of southern Lebanon, the Israeli military\u2019s forced displacement of civilians and prevention of their return amounts to unlawful transfer \u2013 which is a war crime,\u201d the group said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amnesty said the Israeli military has \u201cradically expanded\u201d its use of such orders, displacing hundreds of thousands of people across Lebanon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Kristine Beckerle, Amnesty International\u2019s deputy regional director for the Middle East and North Africa, said Israeli forces should immediately withdraw from Lebanese territory instead of \u201cforcibly uprooting communities\u201d and declaring large areas of Lebanon as \u201cno-go zones\u201d for civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The group said the Israeli military designated around 4.6 percent of Lebanon as a no-go zone on November 28, 2024, a day after a previous ceasefire came into effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It added that in 2026, three days after an April 17 ceasefire announcement, the restricted area was expanded to around 6 percent of the country and labelled a \u201cForward Defence\u201d zone, with residents ordered not to return to several villages that had previously been home to tens of thousands of civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lebanese officials have claimed that Israel, which has been carrying out a major offensive in Lebanon since March 2, has killed more than 3,800 people, injured 11,850 others, and displaced over one million people.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LONDON: The UK-based human rights organisation Amnesty International has accused the Israeli army of committing \u201cwar crimes\u201d under international law, alleging that mass forced displacement orders issued in Lebanon amount&hellip; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":4943,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[2375,52,2003],"class_list":["post-4941","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-world","tag-amnesty-international","tag-israel","tag-lebanon"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.7 -
