Islamabad: National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Friday said that constructive and responsible criticism of the government would be welcomed in parliament, but no lawmaker would be allowed to cross constitutional or institutional limits.
Speaking to opposition leaders during a meeting related to the issuance of the Leader of the Opposition\u2019s appointment notification, the speaker warned that abusive or \u201cbelow-the-belt\u201d language would not be tolerated during parliamentary proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He clearly outlined three red lines, stating that criticism against Pakistan, the armed forces, or the judiciary<\/strong> would not be permitted. Ayaz Sadiq said microphones would be switched off immediately if any member attempted to speak against these institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The speaker emphasised that while he personally tolerated criticism directed at himself, there could be no compromise on matters involving national institutions and constitutional boundaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Rejecting reports of outside influence, Ayaz Sadiq firmly denied any role of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the appointment of the opposition leader.
