Framed as a moral dilemma with artificial intelligence, the textaddresses questions of autonomous weapons, government regulation, humandignity, and the concentration of technological power. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With support from over1.4 billion Catholics around the globe, the Vatican\u2019s entry into the mass AIgovernance debate carries strong political and moral weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To assess what this encyclical means for national security and AI policy, weasked our experts to weigh in, responding to the questions: What should thenational security community make of the Catholic Church positioning itself asa major voice in AI governance? How might adversaries (or allies) leverage orrespond to the Vatican\u2019s intervention in AI policy? Considering the currentthreat landscape around AI-generated disinformation, does a frameworkcentered on human dignity offer a useful guide for thinking about information warfare?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"525\" height=\"350\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1000256843.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4592\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1000256843.jpg 525w, https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1000256843-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 525px) 100vw, 525px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The national security community should view Magnifica Humanitas and the Vatican\u2019s intervention in AI governance not as a theological curiosity, but as a strategic signal. AI is now a contest not only over models, chips, autonomous systems, and regulation, but over the moral order in which technological power is used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Pope, as the present living faith authority for Catholics and a major moral voice across Christian traditions, speaks from a tradition that interprets biblical principles for present-day challenges. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a parallel way, the Ismaili Muslim Imam (the.ismaili) serves as the present-day living Imam with authority to interpret and explain Qur\u2019anic principles in relation to contemporary realities, including science, technology, pluralism, and human development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"536\" src=\"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1000256846-1024x536.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4594\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1000256846-1024x536.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1000256846-300x157.png 300w, https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1000256846-768x402.png 768w, https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/1000256846.png 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This matters because societies cannot be secured by capability alone. They also need institutions, traditions, and civic habits that restrain domination and ask what technology is for. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A human dignity framework places limits around power before efficiency becomes the only measure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This concern is not uniquely Catholic. It attacks the social fabric. It corrodes trust, fractures shared reality, and treats citizens as instruments to be profiled, provoked, and manipulated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A durable AI strategy therefore requires more than technical safeguards or platform rules. It requires moral formation, institutional trust, and civic resilience.
