{"id":4367,"date":"2026-05-21T18:57:59","date_gmt":"2026-05-21T18:57:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/?p=4367"},"modified":"2026-05-21T18:58:01","modified_gmt":"2026-05-21T18:58:01","slug":"uae-rejects-irans-strait-of-hormuz-control-proposal-as-fantasy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/?p=4367","title":{"rendered":"UAE rejects Iran\u2019s Strait of Hormuz control proposal as fantasy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>DUBAI: A senior UAE official on Thursday strongly rejected Iran\u2019s claim of control over Emirati waters in the blockaded Strait of Hormuz, describing the move as a \u201cpipe dream\u201d following an announcement by a newly established Iranian body overseeing the strategic waterway.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anwar Gargash, presidential adviser to the United Arab Emirates, criticised Tehran\u2019s position in a post on X, saying the Iranian regime was attempting to create \u201ca new reality\u201d after what he described as a clear military defeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe regime is trying to establish a new reality born from a clear military defeat, but attempts to control the Strait of Hormuz or infringe on the UAE\u2019s maritime sovereignty are nothing but pipe dreams,\u201d Gargash said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The remarks came after Iran\u2019s newly formed body responsible for overseeing the Strait of Hormuz announced that its claimed area of control extended into Emirati waters, prompting a sharp response from the Gulf state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Traffic through the Strait of Hormuz \u2014 one of the world\u2019s most important global shipping routes \u2014 has been under Iranian control since the outbreak of war involving Israel and the United States on February 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a post published on X on Wednesday, accompanied by a map, the newly established Arabian Gulf Strait Authority said it had defined \u201cthe regulatory jurisdiction for the management\u201d of the strait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the authority, the claimed jurisdiction covers the area extending from \u201cKuh-e Mubarak in Iran to the south of Fujairah in the UAE\u201d and also includes \u201cthe line connecting the tip of Qeshm island in Iran to Umm Al-Quwain in the UAE.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Iranian body further stated that any transit through the area for the purpose of passing through the Strait of Hormuz would require coordination with, and authorization from, the Arabian Gulf Strait Authority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The UAE\u2019s Fujairah port hosts major oil infrastructure designed to bypass the strategic waterway, underscoring its importance to regional and global energy trade.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>DUBAI: A senior UAE official on Thursday strongly rejected Iran\u2019s claim of control over Emirati waters in the blockaded Strait of Hormuz, describing the move as a \u201cpipe dream\u201d following&hellip; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":4368,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[6],"tags":[1440,1477],"class_list":["post-4367","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-world","tag-strait-of-hormuz","tag-uae"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.6 -
