ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has said he is \u201cshocked\u201d after alleged drug queenpin Anmol alias \u201cPinky\u201d reportedly mentioned his name during a court appearance.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly on Wednesday, Ashraf stated that a video clip surfaced on May 18 in which the alleged drug dealer referred to him by name. He said he was surprised by the reference, questioning which Raja Pervaiz Ashraf she was actually talking about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was shocked to hear which Raja Pervaiz Ashraf she was referring to,\u201d he told the lower house of parliament, adding that the woman later claimed she was being forced to make the allegation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former premier urged that such matters should not be publicised or shared on social media until proper investigations are completed, stressing the need to avoid trial by media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further emphasised that every citizen of Pakistan has the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty through due legal process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response to Ashraf\u2019s remarks, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq asked Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar whether cybercrime authorities should take action against what he described as false propaganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The law minister responded by reiterating that the House stood in support of the senior PPP leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Pinky, who is accused of running a drug network, was arrested from her apartment in Karachi\u2019s Garden area. However, the suspect has denied the allegations, claiming she was detained in Lahore 15 days before being shifted to Karachi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to narcotics charges, she is also facing a murder case and remains in police custody on physical remand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, Sindh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Alam Odho said that further prominent names could surface during the investigation into the Pinky case, urging the public to cooperate with authorities in efforts to curb drug trafficking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, the Sindh police chief said a special task force was being formed and encouraged citizens to come forward and provide testimony in court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IGP Odho also confirmed that multiple cases had already been registered against Pinky, including those by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF), adding that more individuals linked to the narcotics network could be identified as the investigation progresses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
