ISLAMABAD: <\/strong>Pakistan has rejected bids for spot liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes for May amid growing uncertainty over energy supplies, according to sources in the Ministry of Energy on Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bids were invited by Pakistan LNG Limited for the purchase of two spot LNG cargoes scheduled for delivery during May 12\u201314 and May 24\u201326.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sources said that a total of seven bids were received for the two cargoes. The lowest bid for the May 12\u201314 delivery window was recorded at $17.28 per million British thermal units (mmbtu).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the May 24\u201326 delivery window, the lowest offer stood at $16.98 per mmbtu, according to the sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, both lowest bids for the spot LNG shipments were rejected by the Pakistan LNG Board, Ministry of Energy officials confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sources further stated that earlier bids for the procurement of two additional spot LNG cargoes for May had also been turned down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials indicated that the decision was influenced by expectations that Pakistan could secure LNG supplies from Qatar under long-term agreements at comparatively lower prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A report by The News<\/em> said the development appeared linked to positive signals from Qatari authorities regarding the availability of two LNG cargoes that may be routed through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sources added that Qatar had earlier shown hesitation in supplying additional LNG cargoes to Pakistan due to concerns over regional security risks and possible disruptions to shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, recent geopolitical developments and Pakistan\u2019s evolving diplomatic engagement in the region are believed to have improved confidence in LNG transportation arrangements, the report added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan last received an LNG cargo on April 30, providing temporary relief to the country\u2019s energy sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The LNG carrier Seapeak Magellan<\/em> docked at the Pakistan GasPort Terminal on April 30 and began supplying re-gasified LNG (RLNG) to the national grid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to The News<\/em>, the cargo arranged by TotalEnergies was priced at $18.40 per mmbtu and marked the first LNG shipment received by Pakistan after a US-origin cargo arrived weeks earlier.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
