{"id":364,"date":"2026-01-13T12:11:01","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T12:11:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/?p=364"},"modified":"2026-01-13T12:11:02","modified_gmt":"2026-01-13T12:11:02","slug":"railways-minister-announces-ml-i-launch-from-karachi-port","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worldwatchalert.com\/?p=364","title":{"rendered":"Railways Minister Announces ML-I Launch from Karachi Port"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>ISLAMABAD:<\/strong> Federal Minister for Railways <strong>Muhammad Hanif Abbasi<\/strong> has announced that work on Pakistan Railways\u2019 flagship <strong>Main Line-I (ML-I) project<\/strong> will begin from <strong>Karachi Port in July 2026<\/strong>, following the finalisation of a joint strategy with the <strong>Karachi Port Trust (KPT)<\/strong> to strengthen rail-based cargo movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The announcement came during the minister\u2019s visit to Karachi, where he met <strong>KPT Chairman Rear Admiral (R) Shahid Ahmed<\/strong>. According to a press release issued on Tuesday, both sides agreed to upgrade and reinforce the railway system connected to Karachi Port to improve cargo handling and logistics efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Abbasi said the government is working to shift freight transportation from road to rail in order to reduce logistics costs and improve efficiency. He added that Pakistan Railways will expand its cargo handling capacity in the coming months, with major upgrades planned for rail infrastructure linked to the port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the initiative, the <strong>54-kilometre railway section between KPT and Pipri<\/strong> will be modernised to enable faster and smoother cargo movement.
