This is an untenable situation,\u201d he told the council.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pakistan\u2019s diplomatic push comes amid intensifying international concern over the risk of a broader regional conflict. Diplomats note that Islamabad has quietly facilitated contacts, including recent engagements involving Iran\u2019s foreign minister and regional capitals, reflecting a renewed but cautious diplomatic opening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reaffirming Pakistan\u2019s broader position, Ambassador Ahmad emphasised the importance of international law, particularly the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, as a cornerstone of maritime order, and called for collective action anchored in cooperation and dialogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cAs a maritime state with unwavering faith in international law and diplomacy, Pakistan will continue to engage\u2026 for preserving the hard-won gains \u2014 both in the gentle tides of peace and amity, and amid the rising storms of conflict,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He concluded with a call for unity, urging the international community to act decisively: <strong>\u201cThis is a sacred trust that history has placed upon us, and we cannot afford to fail. We must succeed, together.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Iran, US clash at UN nuclear conference<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The United States and Iran traded sharp remarks over Tehran\u2019s nuclear programme at the opening of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty review conference at UN headquarters in New York City on Monday.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The disagreement is expected to continue throughout the four-week meeting, with discussions focusing on Iran\u2019s enriched uranium stockpile \u2014 its size, location, and future disposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The conference will also consider Iran\u2019s election as one of 34 vice-presidents, following its nomination by the Non-Aligned Movement.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diplomatic sources at the UN told Dawn that the United States opposed the move, supported by Australia and the United Arab Emirates, while the United Kingdom, France, and Germany expressed concern.
