ISLAMABAD: Russia has expressed willingness to supply discounted oil to Pakistan, with its ambassador Albert Khorev urging Islamabad to formally initiate talks to benefit from the offer.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Khorev said Moscow was ready to provide oil at reduced rates, but noted that no official approach had yet been made by Pakistani authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Energy cooperation key focus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Russian envoy emphasised that the energy sector remains a central pillar of bilateral relations, adding that progress would depend on Pakistan taking the first step towards engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Global oil disruption impacts Pakistan<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Pakistan, like many countries, is facing rising fuel prices amid supply disruptions linked to tensions in the Middle East. Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz \u2014 a vital global oil route \u2014 has been disrupted following its closure by Iran after joint strikes by the United States and Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response, Pakistan has increased petrol and diesel prices by around 20%, with officials stating the hike is temporary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Call for restraint amid tensions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Khorev described the current global situation as \u201ccomplex and unpredictable,\u201d referring to actions by Donald Trump, and said it remained unclear how long tensions would persist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also condemned an attack on a girls\u2019 school in Iran that killed 170 children, terming it \u201chighly deplorable,\u201d and called on all parties to exercise restraint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Push for diplomatic resolution<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
