LOS ANGELES:<\/strong> Veteran American actor Robert Carradine, known for his roles in the television series Lizzie McGuire and the Revenge of the Nerds film franchise, has died at the age of 71, according to family and official sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Carradine family said in a statement that the actor had been battling bipolar disorder for nearly two decades and had taken his own life earlier this week. They described him as \u201calways a beacon of light to everyone around him\u201d and acknowledged his \u201cvaliant struggle\u201d with mental health challenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner confirmed that Carradine died by hanging. Online records indicated that he was still alive when transported to a hospital but later succumbed to complications described as sequelae of anoxic brain injury, which occurs when the brain is deprived of oxygen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following news of his passing, co-stars and friends paid tribute to the late actor. Hilary Duff, who played his on-screen daughter in \u201cLizzie McGuire,\u201d said it was \u201creally hard to face this reality about an old friend.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jake Thomas, who portrayed Carradine\u2019s son in the series, also shared a heartfelt message, recalling the good moments, challenges and laughter they shared during their time working together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
