ISLAMABAD:<\/strong> Murad Saeed, a senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has resigned from his Senate seat, the party confirmed on Saturday, saying he had sent his resignation to Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement posted on PTI\u2019s official X account, Saeed also urged party lawmakers to resign from provincial assemblies, the Senate and other legislative bodies in protest, describing the parliament as \u201cillegitimate\u201d and accusing it of undermining the public mandate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saeed, who was elected senator from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in July 2025 but had not taken oath while remaining in hiding, said lawmakers demanding basic rights for the party\u2019s jailed founder Imran Khan were themselves being detained for protests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His resignation comes amid heightened political tensions, with the government announcing plans to shift the incarcerated PTI founder to a hospital for medical examination and treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said the decision was taken on humanitarian grounds and that a medical board would be constituted, while Information Minister Attaullah Tarar earlier assured that Khan would be examined at a specialised medical facility by eye specialists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led government said it was responsible for providing medical facilities to prisoners in accordance with the law, adding that a detailed report would also be submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, PTI rejected any transfer without the consent of Khan\u2019s family and personal physicians, demanding that at least one family member be present during the medical examination and warning against any \u201csecretive or unilateral\u201d steps.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
